10 Traveler Tips: Your First Time to Cuba

There are two types of travelers: those who take the time to plan ahead, and those who don’t –the latter are always running into unexpected troubles. If you want to get the most out of your trip to Cuba with Letty’s Cuba, consider the following tips:

1. Tell your bank you’re visiting Cuba

Do this as you would it with any other destination. International calls in Cuba are quite expensive and internet access is limited. Let your bank know you’re willing to accept such charges.

2. Bring some hard currency with you

Euros get an excellent exchange rate and having dollars in cash is almost a necessity. You’ll need it for services and other unexpected expenses. If you run low on cash consider going to CADECA (currency exchange places)

3. Bank cards might not work

Sometimes you’ll want to drink a mojito or buy food and you will be left stranded with your card and no mojitos. Resort to the previous tip: bring cash.

4. Practice patience

Long lines and queues are all around Cuba so be prepared and arrive early. You don’t want to miss anything. (When you book with us we make sure you don’t have to wait. We’ve everything scheduled just for you.)

5. Download Offline Google Maps

Havana is a great place to walk, download a map on Google maps prior to your visit to Cuba. It will certainly help you when you’re on your own.

6. Bring your medication

Bring cold medication or anything you might need. Having a stomachache or flu isn’t precisely the best way to enjoy a trip –especially when it might be hard to find the proper medication.

7. Don’t forget to tip

Many Cubans have a very low salary and the cost of living might be fairly high for them. A simple tip might mean the world to them.

8. Get travel insurance

Don’t worry, this one is on us. You won’t even have to worry about it.

9. Travel light

ring the necessary, cabin luggage only if possible. It’s safer and contributes to the whole idea of visiting without complications.

10.Learn some Spanish

Learn some phrases, and make a list of the things you might need to say during your trip. Also, you’ll want to understand a bit of the salsa lyrics to get yourself really immersed in the experience.
